Vision

ESOG aspires to see that all people have a right to and enjoy full reproductive and sexual health (SRH) and that the profession secures the professional environment to realize its mission.

 Mission

Promote and enhance SRH through evidence-based and cohesive action of the association with active participation of its members and broad national and international partnership.

Goal (Overall Objective)

Improve standards, ethics and practices of Sexual and Reproductive health in Ethiopia.

 Objectives

  • To insure high standard of SRH practice in Ethiopia in order to attain the highest possible level of health for women and children in the country.

  • To influence policy, strategy and plan development and training and research in SRH.

  • To improve professional excellence through training and the dissemination of appropriate knowledge and practices in SRH.

  • To advocate and promote high standard ethical practices in SRH.

  • To promote research in SRH.

  • To initiate and strengthen professional linkages with similar societies and organizations in and outside Ethiopia.

  • To advocate and promote the SRH rights as basic human rights in the country

  • Promote and advocate for gender sensitive development.

  • To promote and safeguard the professional rights of its members.

Strategies

The strategic issues for the association for the next five years are:

  1. Advancing selected , priority Sexual and Reproductive health (SRH) issues

  2. Advancing Members' rights and  interests

  3. Strengthening the Association

ESOG's vision and mission are national SRH issues oriented but, strategically it sees itself, in association with the relevant stakeholders, as a professional forum in SRH for:

  1. The articulation of policy, strategic and planning issues.

  2. Research, studies and testing (including pilot testing) on knew knowledge, innovative approaches and best practices.

  3. Promotion, advocacy and technical support for direct implementers - government, NGO and private.

 

  • Strategic issue I:  Sexual and Reproductive health

    • Establish expert groups in the priority areas of ESOG to:

      • Develop position papers

      • Guide studies/research

      • Carry out continuing, in-service training

      • In general act as the expertise pool for ESOG in the specific  field (could serve as a think-tank for the country)

    • Encourage and carry out Ethiopian-problem focused, action-oriented studies/research to

      • Determine evidence-based best practices in the Ethiopian (regional) context to reach the highest possible number of women

      • Adapt new technologies

      • Identify emerging SRH problems

    • Periodically review priority issues in view of changing situations, innovations and    study findings

    • Promotion and advocacy on selected priority issues so as to improve

      • Public awareness on SRH problems

      • Awareness and attitude of leaders (in parliament/councils, government etc) on SRH issues

      • Recognition of women's (RH) rights

    • Ensure participation in relevant policy, strategy, plan development forums

     

  • Strategic Issue II:  Members' rights/interests

    • Establish consensus and understanding among members on the vision,   mission,  objectives and strategies in order to ensure commitment

    • Disseminate information and knowledge, and promote information exchange among its members and other associations

    • Involve members in project planning and implementation

    • Strengthen professional excellence and quality of care through continuing/in-service education

    • Ensure safe and conducive working environment for members

    • Ensure social, medical and job security for its members

     

  • Strategic Issue III :  Strengthening the Association

    • Increase professional competence in the secretariat

    • Establish focal points (branches) in different parts of the country

    • Strengthen the close ties ESOG has with university departments/units dealing with SRH

    • Establish close ties with EMA, EMWA, ENA, EPHA, ECSAOGS, FIGO and similar sister associations, Obstetricians and Gynaecologists  in the Diaspora and create networks with CBO and NGO involved in SRH

    • 3.5    Diversify funding mechanism

Monitoring and Evaluation

Most of the 'project' activities in SP will have in-built M&E mechanism. Monitoring of the implementation of the whole SP will be carried out through:

  1. The panel will monitor the activities of each project using a preset monitoring mechanism

  2. The Panel quarterly reports the project activities to the Executive Committee

  3. The activity and financial report will be discussed at project appraisal meetings organized by the EC twice/year.

  4. Yearly activity audit by internal auditors to be reported at the annual conference business meeting

  5. The Executive Committee of ESOG annually (immediately before the Annual Conference) reviews the project activities and a report will be presented at the business meeting

  6. Mid-term review will be conducted by an external consultant

  7. Final evaluation by an external consultant will be done at the end of the 5  years.
